Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School will Host Annual Founders Day
ST. LOUIS/MO – Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School will host its annual Founders Day on October 6th at 7 p.m. The dinner and awards ceremony will honor various groups and individuals who have helped shape the Cardinal Ritter Prep mission. Funds raised from this event will benefit the Scholarship Fund.
The honorees are:
• The School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) and Daughters of Charity (D.C.) are co-recipients of the Cardinal Ritter Award recognizing those who exemplify the school’s mission. Both the School Sisters of Notre Dame and the Daughters of Charity have been involved in minority education for decades and have been a part of Cardinal Ritter College Prep since its inception. Through the years, the dedication and service of the sisters have helped keep Cardinal Ritter Prep the exemplary school it is today. Sister Teresa Haug, SSND is currently the business manager at Cardinal Ritter Prep and Sister Maureen Bannister, D.C. teaches theology.
• Father Mitchell Doyen will receive the Cardinal Justin Rigali Award for Faith Development. Fr. Doyen is current Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education at the Archdiocese of St. Louis. He is Pastor of Ascension/St. Paul Parish in Normandy and has been a long-time advocate for Catholic education.
• Tom Nolan will receive The John Vatterott Award for Leadership for his exceptional leadership as former board member and board president of Cardinal Ritter Prep. Nolan was part of the original task force that created Cardinal Ritter Prep in 1979. He served as president of Loyola Academy and was also a board member for the St. Louis Public School System.
• Pearl Richardson will receive the Dr. Joyce Thomas Award for Academic Excellence. Richardson, a former teacher at Cardinal Ritter Prep, was in charge of personnel at the Catholic Education Office. "Pearl Richardson is an excellent role model for African-American Catholic educators everywhere," says Carmele Hall, principal at Cardinal Ritter Prep.
• Katrina Hubbard will receive The Alumni Excellence Award. While attending Cardinal Ritter Prep, Hubbard was very active, participating in choir and musicals and other activities. Since her graduation in 1991, she has remained an active and dedicated volunteer, most recently playing a large role in the Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School Golf Invitational. Katrina works at U.S. Bank.
“All of these individuals have modeled the Cardinal Ritter Prep mission in the community,” said Leon Henderson, president of Cardinal Ritter Prep. “Founders Day allows us to honor those who support our mission of academic excellence, faith development and leadership, while also raising funds for our scholarship program.”
Donn Johnson, director of communications for the Missouri Historical Society, will be emcee for the awards ceremony. Sponsors are still needed for the Cardinal Ritter Prep Founders Day. Joining as an Underwriter, Sponsor, Host or Patron will help to support the Cardinal Ritter Prep scholarship program and underwrite student tuition costs.
The Founders Day dinner and awards ceremony will be held on October 6th at 7 p.m. in the Cardinal Ritter Prep gymnasium. Corporate sponsorships and tables of ten are available. Individual tickets are $60 each. A pre-event reception will be held for award winners and sponsors. For reservations or to request sponsorship information, call Maggie Ryan at 314-446-5508.
