Cardinal Ritter raises $30,000 during annual Founder’s Day
ST. LOUIS, MO – Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School raised $30,000 during their annual Founder’s Day dinner event held on October 5. The dinner and awards ceremony, attended by nearly 300 guests, honored various groups and individuals who have helped shape the Cardinal Ritter Prep mission. Money raised at the event will assist students with tuition costs.
The honorees were:
Rev. Paul Sheridan, S.J. and the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), are co-recipients of the “Cardinal Ritter Award” which recognizes those who exemplify the school’s mission. Father Sheridan was the president at Saint Louis University High (SLUH) from 1997 until 2006 and served as a member of the board of directors at Cardinal Ritter Prep. The Jesuits have been strong supporters of education in St. Louis since 1823.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car will receive the “Corporate Community Service Award” in recognition of their continued support of Cardinal Ritter Prep and their leadership and philanthropic efforts in the St. Louis community.
Dr. Donald Suggs, publisher of the St. Louis American, will receive the “Individual Community Service Award” for his dedication and service to the St. Louis community, particularly the African-American community.
Joseph Cavato will receive the “John Vatterott Award for Leadership” for his exceptional leadership as a board member and former board president of Cardinal Ritter Prep.
Msgr. Ted Wojcicki will receive the “Cardinal Rigali Award for Faith Development.” He was involved in preliminary work during the search for the new site for Cardinal Ritter Prep in the early 1990s and has served on the Cardinal Ritter Prep Development Committee for the past several years.
Joe Wiley will receive the “Dr. Joyce Thomas Award for Academic Excellence.” Wiley is a former teacher at Cardinal Ritter Prep.
Tamiko Armstead will receive “The Alumni Excellence Award.” Armstead is currently on the Cardinal Ritter Prep board of directors and plays a large role in fundraising. She currently is employed by Edward Jones.
Ed Bell, Dee White and Marcy Dean are co-recipients of the “Parent of Excellence Award” for their dedication and service to the students of Cardinal Ritter Prep.
“All of these individuals and organizations have modeled the Cardinal Ritter Prep mission in the community,” said Leon Henderson, president of Cardinal Ritter Prep. “Founders Day allows us to honor those who support our mission of academic excellence, faith development and leadership, while also raising funds for our scholarship program.”
Sponsorships are available for the Cardinal Ritter Prep Founders Day. Sponsors at the Underwriter, Sponsor, Host or Patron levels help support the Cardinal Ritter Prep scholarship program and underwrite student tuition costs.

This year, as in years past, all Cardinal Ritter Prep seniors graduated and were accepted to college.
